An Ohio native and graduate of The University Of Cincinnati's DAAP Program, Angie founded her own firm The Kinfolk Group, in the early 2000's while living and working in Hong Kong. Her portfolio includes projects in India, New York City, San Francisco, Arizona, Iowa, Oregon, Hong Kong, and the great state of Ohio. TKG's ethos is rooted in the importance of connecting with,
and how we are affected by, the spaces in which we dwell. Have you experienced arriving at your vacation destination, and your rental space stopped you in your tracks overcome with emotion? We FEEL different in THAT space. For a week our minds open, and we imagine possibilities that had never occurred to us. Folks spend a great deal of time and energy chasing THAT feeling.
The experiences those spaces gift us leave us dreading leaving, while anticipating that one week we will spend there next year.
What a valuable insight into the question, "How do I want to FEEL when I walk into MY OWN SPACE"? That singular question will be answered through the lenses in which you perceive beauty...or the person you choose to guide you towards achieving the feelings you long for, every single time you walk through your front door. No two designers are identical, nor will they create the same outcome for your space. Finding the right fit will determine your mood for years to come.. It's an important choice.
Your first encounter with Angie will be one of exploration towards understanding YOU. She needs to know:
"What would you do if you were not afraid"? Her motivation is to connect (with you and what lights you on fire)...thats where the magic emerges, when she begins creating 3D models of your space in her mind. Linking your unique needs, hopes and vision with our trusted family of talented craftspeople is the key to designing something special, functional, and lovely. TKG's foundation is built on the consequences of collaboration (with you as well as our Kinfolk family). We have tirelessly curated a bespoke network of local artisans to execute our custom designs with the most imaginative of ideas and solutions. Dying arts (such as hand-carving, woodworking, stone work, and more) are filled with knowledge bases that are a gateway to the possibilities for your project. Open your mind to TKG's rare method behind how spaces take shape..
Angela Prewitt-Smithson's career spans over 15 years as a design director for iconic, global brands including Nike, Oilily, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle Outfitters and Nautica. Exposure to international business travel as well as living abroad in London, Amsterdam and HK, as well as NYC created a curious mind, and a visionary thinker. Her portfolio includes Nike's, Michael Jordan Comeback Collection, designing the ground-breaking "cap sleeve jersey" that transformed the face of college and professional basketball. She launched the kids brand for A&F, as well as designed their men's denim & woven's divisions, growing her categories 180%. Angie created the American Eagle Outfitters Eagle logo, and signature denim back pocket stitch which insured their brand visibility as a market leader. While with AEO, she also designed the floorset for their flagship store in NYC for her categories, and grew these divisions over 300%..
Angie is the daughter of a local legend and master craftsman, mother to an animal whisperer child, and owner of
Her Wildwood Farm (where barns burst with antique treasures that are at the heart of her design aesthetic). It is here you'll find her brewing kombucha, apple cider vinegar and raising her beloved chickens. She and her husband Joe gut renovated and restored their own home on this farm with their four bare hands (and her Dad's help). That's what she DID when she was NOT afraid. What will you DO?
Uma's spirit animal is a wolf. She is an entrepreneur with more than one business, and single-handedly creates impressive cardboard sign's reading things like "Tips For Flips", which she erects at the end of the driveway (armed with a portable speaker blaring Taylor Swift songs) to make extra spending money to purchase makeup and (more) chickens. She is an artist who paints, dances and violin's her way through our world, all the while making the most beautiful oragami we've ever seen. She is a creative problem solver and a bit of an inventor. Uma is extraordinary.
A cultured farm girl who has an otherworldly way with animals (as she speaks their language), Uma is the co-owner of our chickens & chocolate lab sibling's, Isobel & Prudence. She can fry a mean egg, beat you at Rummikub, and is the comedy relief that bonds our kinfolk group.
Uma sings herself to sleep and has a near photographic memory, gets straight A's in school, loves to read and is a gifted writer. She is deadly honest (to our chagrin), and continues to hone her skills as a negotiator, as she relentlessly works to convince her Mom to get her a horse. Uma reminds us every single moment that fun is important, laughter is healing and life is full of wonder
if you allow it to be.
When meeting Bobby Joe Prewitt, you will find yourself captivated by his humble demeanor, the twinkle in his eye and smell of his Stetson cologne, all while finding yourself admiring his cowboy boots. He is charming and full of country wisdom. As he encounters folks discussing unrealistic expectations (be it at Rural King or on a job site), you'll hear him chuckle while speaking (loudly)
"Wish in one hand and shit in the other, and see which one gets full faster". You'll laugh and learn each time you're lucky to work with, or for him. A master craftsman, mason, welder and accomplished finish carpenter, people working alongside Bob, marvel at the rarity of his mind, and understand that his brilliance lies in the simplicity of his solutions. He does not process or think like others, and is normally the calmest, smartest guy in the room.
You can tell a lot about a person by who they've studied under, and every moment spent learning from Bob Prewitt is a
teachable one. Those closest to him inevitably develop a thick skin, and are bound to approach challenges through a different set of lenses.
Bob never met a yard sale he didn't like (which seems to be genetic, and substantiated by the contents of Angie's barns). He regularly helps Joe pick up the treasures his daughter finds, utilizing his own truck and trailer (so he can shop for himself). The History channel's "American Pickers" visited the family farm in 2023 to film an episode about this local legend, and partake in Bob's lifetime collection of antiques and automobiles he has lovingly restored.
Bob & Glenda Sue Prewitt were married at 19 years of age. They had two children, four grandchildren, many dogs, and a lot of tools. He is a lifelong entrepreneur who owned his family hardware and lumber store & construction company for 55+ years. Bobby is loved and respected by his team, family & friends, and will make sure you understand that if you take care of your tools, they will take care of you. He leaves people in awe as to the value that one exceptional craftsman brings to projects you are lucky they contributed to.
Folks from Blanchester, Ohio (when dating), generally seek a mate who can change the engine in their car, lay tile, roof houses, catch chickens, is a great dancer, owns a good truck and trailer. (and is smart enough to work with their dad).
Angie found herself one of these types in Joseph Smithson.
Joe received his Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He loves softball and has a daughter who is the light of his life. Joe & Angie are from the same rural village in Ohio, and attended high school together.
Although unprepared for what lay waiting for him on Her Wildwood Farm, Joe met it all with a pair of gloves and a mostly
positive attitude. He helped Angie gut-renovate her own dream home, rebuilt her a chicken coop (that had been in the farm burn pile), built Issy & Prudence a new dog house, and impatiently executes her never ending honey-do list (all while pretending to listen to her incessant chatter about chickens)..
Joe has a wicked sense of humor and describes Angie as "the hard workinest woman he ever met". He is an incredible Father, cook, and the best partner a farm owner could hope for. Joe won't ride in Angie's car because he doesn't want to get his clothes dirty (as it is perpetually filled with dusty, beautiful things she's found yet not unloaded, that she will use in your home). He won't let her borrow his new truck, so he got her one of her own...with one stipulation:..she not run the ass off it. She has yet to fulfill that obligation
Joe longs for the day he can watch football in peace instead of listening to endless stories about chickens. He is deeply cherished and loved. Joe continually helps Angie chase her dreams (and pick up stuff she buys at barn sales).
He is just about perfect.
